MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police has signed an agreement with the Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund Inc. (PSMBFI) to boost legal support for PNP personnel.
Under the agreement, PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. said funding for the program was established to provide financial aid to police officers dealing with service-related cases and to cover travel expenses for prosecution witnesses.
“The PSMBFI, a private mutual benefit association, has partnered with us in our endeavor to enhance assistance to police personnel,” Acorda said in a statement.
The PSMFBI has committed an additional P240 million over the next five years to sustain the program, which is scheduled for launching in March.
A portion of the funding will also be allocated to enhance the capabilities of the PNP Legal Service.
Acorda said the agreement complements the PNP’s mission to uphold the morale and welfare of its personnel.
“It is heartening to witness the private sector, represented by the PSMBFI, actively participating in corporate social responsibility endeavors that directly impact the well-being of PNP personnel,” he said.
