US, PH troops conduct live fire drills
FILIPINO, American and Australian soldiers participated in a large-scale counter-landing and live fire drills in Kampung Ulay, Rizal, Palawan during the eighth day of the annual Balikatan exercise.
The Philippine Navy deployed its multi-purpose attack casts and fast attack interdiction craft to neutralize a simulated seaborne intrusion, while the Philippine Marines used Howitzers in a synchronized fire mission.
Coordination and precision on the battlefield was tested with the use of the high mobility artillery rocket system (HIMARS), supported by.50 caliber machine guns and M16 rifles.
The drill culminated with a precision strike from the HIMARS, highlighting the allied forces' capability against amphibious threats.
Troops from Japan Self-Defense Forces were present as observers.
Meanwhile, soldiers from the 5th and 7th Infantry of the Philippine Army worked with US Army Pacific's 25th Infantry Division in a helocast training using UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters, in Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija on Sunday.
Helocasting is a specialized airborne technique that allows small military units to rapidly insert troops into maritime environments.
It is considered a critical skill for forces operating in archipelagic landscapes like those in the Philippines.
