Taguig single parents to get 20 percent fare discount
IN an effort to improve social assistance for vulnerable sectors, the city of Taguig has passed an ordinance that gives registered single parents a 20-percent tricycle fare discount.
On April 16, 2025, Ordinance 133 was signed, requiring all tricycle operators with active city-issued franchises to give discounts to single parents, who are holders of official identification cards from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
The measure is anchored on the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act (Republic Act 11861), which underscores the State's commitment to assist parents raising children on their own.
Under the ordinance, the discount is available exclusively to the solo parent, whether traveling alone or accompanied by their child. The city has also set penalties for drivers and operators who refuse to honor the discount: P500 for the first offense; P1,500 for the second offense; P2,000 and a one-month suspension of the franchise for the third offense, and P2,500 and possible revocation of the franchise for succeeding violations.
Mayor Lani Cayetano emphasized the city's dedication to inclusive governance, noting that the new ordinance is part of broader efforts to make essential services more accessible.
