Read Across America visits Altadena Arts Magnet students relocated by Eaton fire
The California Teachers Association visited kindergarten students of Altadena Arts Magnet Monday, March 3, one of the schools impacted by the Eaton fire.
CTA President and Los Angeles educator David Goldberg read to students who have been relocated to Allendale Elementary School. His visit was part of Read Across America, a national year-long celebration of reading.
“That was pretty powerful. The kids started to open up,” Goldberg said. “Many of them are still processing this.”
Educators hand select books for the program. The 2024/2025 school year books can be found at cta.org/californiareads. The Eaton fire damaged or destroyed five school sites in the Pasadena Unified School District.
“We just took a moment to just take a breath and really honor what they’ve been through, but also really give thanks for the community they still have here,” Goldberg said.
