Pupa is Torn Between the Pull of Home and Dreams in New Single ‘Dpta’
Musician-painter Pupa Dadivas revels in conflicted feelings about her dreams in her debut single “DPTA.”“It’s a curse word in Ilonggo/Hiligaynon. It naturally slips out of my mouth when I feel frustrated,” explained the new Tarsier Records artist. Püpa shared that she blended Filipino, English, and Ilonggo words to depict her frustration with taking risks and moving forward while also wanting to stay grounded and in her comfort zone. “I wrote it when I was torn between chasing my dreams and my longing for home. My frustration is a constant push and pull. Some days, it overshadows my whole being and mapapa-’DPTA’ ka na lang talaga,” she added. The track was composed by Püpa and produced by Ken Ponce. Raised in Roxas City, the 25-year-old singer-songwriter combines traditional pop and Asian pop in her music and also delves into indie and alternative genres.
