Inland Assemblymember Bill Essayli named U.S. attorney for Southern California
Assemblymember Bill Essayli is leaving Sacramento and going back to court — this time with a big promotion.
The Corona Republican and former prosecutor resigned from the California State Assembly on Tuesday night, April 1, after announcing that Donald Trump’s administration picked him to be U.S. attorney for the Central District of California.
“I am honored that President Trump and Attorney General (Pam) Bondi have placed their trust in me to serve as United States Attorney for the Central District of California,” Essayli, a former federal prosecutor, said in a news release.
“I intend to implement the President’s mission to restore trust in our justice system and pursue those who dare to cause harm to the United States and the People of our nation.”
First elected in 2022 to represent part of Riverside County, Essayli, 39, made a name for himself as a conservative firebrand eager to fight Democrats in deep blue California.
