At least 8,524 public utility jeepneys (PUJs) or 69.2 percent have been consolidated in Western Visayas as of April 29, 2024, according to data of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board 6.

In Iloilo City, the franchise consolidation posted 75 percent, and 98 percent in Iloilo Province. However, only 579 units or 27 percent were consolidated in Bacolod City.

An estimated 2,500 unconsolidated PUJs are to lose their franchise after the extended deadline last April 30, 2024.

Apprehension of unconsolidated units proven to be plying their routes will start by May 2, 2024. As of this posting time, LTFRB 6 is waiting for the guidelines from the LTFRB Central Office.

The No to PUV Phaseout Coalition Panay staged a protect action in the vicinity of the LFTRB 6 office.

The Iloilo City Traffic Management Unit (ICTMU) met with transport terminal operators on the implementation of a local public transport route plan.  It is its objective to enforce order in the parking, waiting, and drop-off areas, as well as the clearing up of entrance and exit points from obstruction.

Uldarico Garbanzos, ICTMU chief, said that available transport will be on standby should a shortage of public transportation is apparent. –GMA Regional TV
