National University overcame Ateneo de Manila University in a five-setter, 25-17, 24-26, 26-28, 25-19, 15-7, in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Lady Bulldogs had an early 12-4 lead in the fifth set before they reached match point, 14-5. However, back-to-back errors from NU provided a glimpse of chance to the Blue Eagles before a block by Minierva Maaya handed NU its first win.
This is National U’s first win after losing to University of Santo Tomas during the opening weekend.
Bella Belen had 21 points from 18 attacks and three blocks, while Vangie Alinsug had 19 points for NU.
Bea Buena had 16 points, while AC Miner had 14 points for the Blue Eagles.
Earlier, Adamson University also barged into the win column as it took down University of the Philippines, 25-22, 25-22, 28-26.
May Ann Nuique and Rochelle Lalongisip led the Lady Falcons with 12 points apiece, while Nina Ytang paced the Fighting Maroons with 18 points.
NU and Adamson are both at 1-1 while Ateneo and UP went down to 0-2.
