MP Promotions president Sean Gibbons is confident that former IBF world super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas can get back on his feet.
Ancajas, 32, suffered the first knockout defeat of his career when he challenged Takuma Inoue for the WBA world bantamweight title this past weekend in Tokyo, Japan.
Though he lost three of his last four fights, Gibbons believes Ancajas still has more to offer.
“We have to talk to Jerwin. I think he has a lot left. The guy fought his a** off. It was one of those fights where it was kind of even and you got caught with a shot,” Gibbons stated.
“If he wants to continue, we find a way to get a win or two and let us get back to a title shot. That is it. That was what we did before and that is what we will do again.”
Ancajas made nine defenses of his world title before losing back-to-back to Fernando Martinez in 2022.
After the loss, Ancajas went up in weight to defeat Wilner Soto via TKO in a tune-up bout before getting back in the world title picture.
“We just have to work ourselves back around [at] 118 or 122 [pounds] whatever it may be. He is a young man, he is 32 years old, has a lot of fight left,” Gibbons told.
