Trekking activities at Mt. Apo Natural Park (MANP) are temporarily suspended for 10 days from March 20, 2024 to March 30, 2024.
The temporary closure of all trails and suspension of trekking activities are based on the resolution approved by the MANP-Protected Area Management Board Executive Committee on Tuesday, March 19.
This is to protect the environment and prioritize the safety of visitors as El Niño continues to affect the trekking and camping sites within the MANP.
According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Davao (DENR-11), this precautionary measure aims to mitigate the risk of grass fires and ensure the well-being of the park’s diverse ecosystems.
The DENR-11 said the decision to extend the closure or resume activities will be based on the assessment and recommendations of the MANP-Protected Area Management Office (PAMO) of Region 11 and Region 12.
Those who have made reservations during the affected dates may reach out their respective local organizers to arrange alternative schedules.
“We deeply appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we navigate this environmental challenge. Together, let’s continue our collective efforts to safeguard and cherish the natural beauty of Mt. Apo Natural Park,” the DENR-11 said in a Facebook post. —GMA Regional TV
