Investigators sift through the scene of the fire in Barangay Sicayab in Dipolog City that resulted in the death of an adolescent mother and her six-day-old child.

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — An adolescent mother and her six-day old child were charred beyond recognition when their house in Barangay Sicayab in Dipolog City was razed by fire before dawn Sunday.

In separate reports on Monday, the Dapitan City Police Office and the unit of the Bureau of Fire Protection in the city said efforts to determine the cause of the fire that resulted in the death of the 16-year-old Jamindang Dumiande and her child, born just on February 27, are still underway.

The house of the victims is located on a hill in Purok Tipo in Barangay Sicayab, a secluded area in Dapitan City.

Probers from the BPF-Dapitan City and the local police had told reporters that Dumiande’s live-in partner, the 20-year-old Bernabe Cadano, a fisherman, was out fishing in the sea, quite distant from the beachfront Barangay Sicayab.
