THE 81st session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 81) is taking place at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) headquarters in London with hybrid participation from March 18-22, 2024.
The MEPC, spearheaded by IMO, tackles environmental issues such as holding back pollution in sea and air emanating from ships, water management, ship recycling, and preparedness and response to pollution. At the MEPC 80 in July 2023, the IMO announced its goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.MEPC 81 is expected to clarify steps to carry this through.
