MANILA, Philippines — Attending his first flag-raising ceremony yesterday as chief of the Philippine National Police, Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil called on PNP personnel to always stay on the righteous path and give the best service to the public.
In his speech, Marbil said police officers have two gifts from God every time they wake up: a chance to do good and to make a difference.
“Let us make a difference in people’s lives. That’s all I want. Let us give them the best service,” Marbil said.
He said people should always feel safe every time they leave and return to their homes.
Marbil underscored the need for members of the police force to do what is right when addressing the people’s needs.
“Binabayaran po ang pulis natin for public service. Let us give them what is right,” he said.
Unlike his predecessors, the first flag-raising rites attended by Marbil was over within 12 minutes, with his speech lasting for about one minute.
Marbil wanted the PNP flag-raising rites held every Monday shortened, noting that police officers should be at their work stations by 8 a.m. to address the needs of the people.
He has barred police officers on beat patrol from using their cell phones while on duty.
