Marawi residents voted overwhelmingly in favor of the creation of three more barangays in the city on Saturday.
According to the Commission on Elections, 2,123 out of the 2,265 registered voters in Barangay Dulay, Barangay Kilala, and Barangay Patan participated in the plebiscite.
The results showed that 2,121 voters, or 93.73%, agreed to the creation of the new barangays—Sultan Corobong, Sultan Panoroganan, and Angoyao—while only two said no.
The Comelec said the plebiscite was “successful, peaceful, and orderly.”
”Most notably, the historic high voter turnout and the resounding yes votes clearly show that democracy is not merely alive but vibrant and thriving in the Islamic City of Marawi,” the poll body said. — Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News
