MANILA, Philippines — A 6.1-magnitude earthquake hit Davao Oriental yesterday.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the epicenter of the quake, which occured at 5:11 p.m., was recorded 149 kilometers south of Governor Generoso town.
The temblor had a depth of focus of 105 kilometers.
The temblor was tectonic in origin, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
Instrumental Intensity 4 or moderately strong shaking was recorded in Malungon, Sarangani.
Phivolcs said there was no tsunami alert due to the quake.
State seismologists said damage is not expected, but aftershocks may follow.
The Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said there was no reported damage due to the quake as of early last night.
On Thursday, a magnitude 4.8 quake struck Baganga town, also in Davao Oriental.
