A magnitude 5.1 earthquake was reported in New Bataan in Davao de Oro shortly before noon on Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

In its report, PHIVOLCS said the earthquake occurred at 11:33 a.m., was tectonic in origin, and had a depth of focus of 8 kilometers.

The earthquake was felt in the following intensities: 

  • Intensity V – Pantukan, Mabini, and Maco, DAVAO DE ORO
  • Intensity IV – City of Tagum, DAVAO DE ORO; City of Bislig, SURIGAO DEL SUR

It was also felt in the following instrumental intensities:

  • Intensity V – Nabunturan, DAVAO DE ORO
  • Intensity I – City of Digos, Davao City, Matanao, and Magsaysay, DAVAO DEL SUR; Malungon, SARANGANI

PHIVOLCS said no damage was expected from the earthquake although aftershocks are likely. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
