A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck offshore east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur on Wednesday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.
The quake, which occurred at 12:51 p.m. with a depth of one kilometer, was tectonic in origin.
The epicenter was located 08.56°N, 126.89°E – 065 km N 71° east of Hinatuan.
Intensity IV was felt in the City of Bislig, Surigao del Sur.
“This is an aftershock of the 2023 December 2 Mw7.4 Offshore Surigao del Sur earthquake event,” PHIVOLCS added.
No damage is expected but PHIVOLCS warned that aftershocks may still occur. —Sherylin Untalan/KG, GMA Integrated News
