Juliana Gomez of the University of the Philippines ruled anew in the women’s epee individual event of UAAP fencing after defeating De La Salle University’s Cyrra Vergara, 15-14, in come-from-behind fashion in the finals on Friday at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
Gomez also got the gold medal for the said event in Season 85.
“I feel like I just hit a bull’s eye because the target was the gold, but I was able to add to what Nana Carbonell did during the first day,” Gomez said while referring to her teammate’s win in foil individual.
“It was honestly such a great feeling that we have a good chance of winning the overall for the women’s,” she added.
At the end of Day 2 of the Season 86 fencing tourney, UP topped the women’s standings with two golds and two bronzes, followed by University of the East with a gold, a silver, and a bronze, and University of Santo Tomas with a silver and a bronze.
In the men’s division, UE led with a gold and two silvers, followed by De La Salle University (1-0-2), and UST (1-0-1). UE also finished Day 2 on top of the standings in the boys (2-3-0) and girls division (3-2-1).
