Jarred Brooks lost the ONE strawweight world title by way of disqualification after he slammed Joshua Pacio on his head in the opening round at ONE 166 on Friday at Lusail Arena in Qatar.
Barely a minute into the fight and still without a significant strike landed, Brooks picked up Pacio from the back and slammed the latter on his head. The American celebrated, unaware that what he did was an illegal move.
Down and out, the referee waived the contest at the 56-second mark of round one with Pacio winning back the ONE world title via Brooks’ disqualification.
Pacio is conscious but has been rushed to the hospital, according to ONE Championship.
