Iza Calzado wrote a touching tribute for the late actress Jaclyn Jose.
Although she is “still in shock,” Iza looked back on their time together in a post on Instagram. Iza said that she first saw Jaclyn at the GMA Network Center in the early 2000s.
“There was a shoot with all of the artists and you were standing in line like everyone else,” Iza said.
“I looked at you and immediately wanted to hug you because you reminded me of my mom who I just lost in 2001. Tisay and a bit short but had an intensity and mystery about you that just gave off a ‘Wag mo akong subukan.’ Kind of energy,” she added.
Iza said that “as luck would have it,” they played mother and daughter in the Kapuso series “Te Amo, Maging Sino Ka Man,” and in more shows later on.
“You treated me like a daughter and I looked up to you as a mentor and mother,” she said. “Jane Guck or Nanay Jane I would fondly call you.”
Iza added that their shared love for tequila and rockstars made them click.
“You were both generous and kind with your words of encouragement and support be it on or off cam. You were also very stern when you needed to be. That’s one of the best things about you — napakatotoo mo.”
Iza shared that she last saw Jaclyn at a party for the Eddie Garcia Bill, where she passionately asked questions and shared her personal opinions.
“I had no idea that would be the last time I would see you,” Iza said. “Kung alam ko lang, I would have hugged you more that night, yung yakap na sobrang higpit para alam mo na mahal na mahal kita.”
“I truly love, respect and appreciate you, Jane Guck,” she added. “It has been an honor and great pleasure to know you and cross paths with you in this lifetime. Pahinga ka na. Until the next one.”
To end her message, Iza said, “Taos pusong pakikiramay sa iyong mga mahal sa buhay lalo na sayo baby girl @andieigengirl.”
Jaclyn’s daughter and former actress Andi Eigenmann commented, “Love you Ate Iza. Yakap.”
Born Mary Jane Guck, Jaclyn Jose died on March 2 at 60 years old. Andi revealed that she died due to a heart attack.
Jaclyn’s death was first announced by her agency, PPL Entertainment. Her family, through the Philippine National Police, also previously said that there was no foul play involved.
In 2016, Jose won Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival for her mesmerizing performance in Brillante Mendoza’s “Ma’Rosa.”
Jose’s other notable performances include starring and supporting roles in films such as “The Flor Contemplacion Story” and “Patay Na Si Hesus.” She also starred in several GMA Network series, including “Marimar,” “The Millionaire’s Wife,” and “D’Originals.”
The Eigenmann family, celebrities, and industry colleagues are mourning the award-winning actress and have paid tribute to her on social media.
