Infra damage due to Mindanao floods, landslides breaches P1 billion thumbnail

The cost of damage to infrastructure due to the flooding and landslides in Mindanao has reached over P1 billion, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Wednesday.

In its latest report, the NDRRMC said P1,198,653,314 worth of damage to infrastructure was reported in Davao and Caraga. Also, P558,254,553 worth of damage to agriculture was reported in these regions.

A total of 1,762 houses were damaged —1,011 partially and 751 totally.

The death toll in Davao Region due to the bad weather remained at 22, while 11 people were injured and two were still missing.

In the landslide in Maco, Davao de Oro, 98 bodies including body parts have been recovered while eight people were still missing, according to the municipal government as of February 18.

A total of 1,567,339 people or 471,819 families were affected by the bad weather in Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and Bangsamoro.

Of the affected population, 15,407 people or 4,147 families were staying in 64 evacuation centers, while 174,074 individuals or 69,025 families were staying in other places.

State of calamity was declared in the following areas.

  • Maco, Davao de Oro
  • Agusan del Sur
  • Lingig, Surigao del Sur
  • Butuan City
  • Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte 

Assistance worth P257,641,432 has been provided to the victims, according to the NDRRMC.

Some Mindanao areas experienced the effects of the Northeast Monsoon or Amihan and the trough of a now dissipated low pressure area that resulted in flooding and landslides.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
