How many times did Gordon Cormier watch the ‘Avatar’ series to prepare for the role of Aang?

Gordon Cormier was only 11 years old when he got the role of Aang for the Netflix live-adaptation series of “Avatar: The Last Airbender.”

In a press conference on Wednesday in BGC, the Filipino-Canadian actor said he watched the animated series 35 times before filming the live-action series.

When the original show aired on Nickelodeon 19 years ago, Cormier wasn’t even born yet.

So when he was informed that he got the role, the 15-year-old star said the exact moment was full of “tears, crying, and happiness.”

“They ended up [telling me], ‘We searched the whole world for Aang, the whole world, and we found him, and you live 15 miles away from the studio,’” Cormier recalled.

“I was really confused, I have no clue as to what’s going on, and I’m like, ‘You found him? That’s a really mean way to say I didn’t get the role,’” he added.

Eventually, Cormier said the Netflix team informed him that he booked the role.

“It was a lot of tears, a lot of crying, a lot of emotional words,” he said.

In the same event, Cormier also expressed his happiness for coming back to the Philippines.

“I’m back in my homeland,” he said. “It’s nice to be back home.”

“Avatar: The Last Airbender” premieres on Netflix on Thursday, February 22. It also stars Kiawentiio as Katara, Dallas Liu as Prince Zuko, and Ian Ousley as Sokka.

“Avatar: The Last Airbender” is a beloved Nickelodeon cartoon that aired from 2005 to 2008.
