A Resolution mourning the loss of award-winning actress Jaclyn Jose and honoring her legacy in Philippine cinema has been filed in the House of Representatives.

“The veteran actress was praised for her outstanding portrayals both in cinema and television, leaving an indelible mark on the entertainment world,” the Resolution read.

“Her remarkable acting talent, nuanced character portrayals, and depth as a Filipina artist have undeniably left an enduring impact on our nation’s entertainment landscape, garnering her numerous accolades such as the Gawad Urian Awards, FAMAS Awards, Luna Awards, and even a nomination at the Asian Film Awards,” it added.

The Resolution cited Jose’s impressive portrayals of varying roles in films and television series such as Flor Contemplacion Story (1995), Mula sa Puso (1997-1998), Patay na si Hesus (2016), and Kalel, 15 (2019), among others.

But Jose, whose real name is Mary Jane Guck, arguably shone the brightest when she bagged the 2016 Cannes Film Festival Best Actress award for her impeccable portrayal of a drug-dealing matriarch hustling to make a living in the movie Ma Rosa.

Jose beat Academy Award winners Marion Cotillard, Juliette Binoche, Charlize Theron, as well as Academy Award nominee Isabelle Huppert, among other reputable actresses, for the Cannes Film Festival Best Actress plum which made her the only Filipino and Southeast Asian to win such recognition.

“Now therefore, be it resolved, as it is hereby resolved, that the House of Representatives expresses its profound condolences to the bereaved family of award-winning actress Jaclyn Jose and honors her legacy and contributions to the Philippine cinema,” the Resolution added.

House Deputy Minority Leader France Castro of ACT Teachers, House Assistant Minority Leader Arlene Brosas and Kabataan party-list lawmaker Raoul Manuel file the said Resolution under House Resolution 1628.

The actress is survived by her children, Andi Eigenmann and Gwen Garmond lagan Guck.

Her daughter Andi earlier announced that her mother died of a heart attack.
