Artists took several days to paint giant egg-shaped pieces as part of an Easter local tradition in Croatia that also pays homage to the ‘Naive’ school of painting of the town of Hlebine.

The pieces, some of which measure up to two meters high, are now on display in the streets of the nearby city of Koprivnica.

“We meticulously blend everything to ensure seamless transitions, resulting in a complete picture with four motifs,” said local artist Zlatko Steficek, who applied his skill on the giant pieces with another three artists.

Kristina Socev, a tourist office official, said some of the pieces will be shown in places as far as New York, in the United States, and other European cities.

The Hlebine school of naive art “reached its zenith in the 1980s with renowned artists such as Generalic, Mraz, Virjusa, Vecenaj, Lackovica Croata, and many others,” Socev said. — Reuters
