The Department of Education (DepEd) announced that former OIC Secretary Dr. Fe A. Hidalgo passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.
“The entire DepEd organization extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and relatives of Dr. Hidalgo,” said DepEd in a statement, which included a tribute to the decades-long service rendered by the educator.
Hidalgo, the Department adds, “dedicated her life’s work in the field of education, serving the agency for 70 years.”
“She started her career as an elementary teacher in the Division of Batanes in 1956. She also taught in Quezon City and Manila before serving as an educational researcher for the Department of Education and Culture (then DepEd). She also led the Staff Development Division as a human resource management development chief.”
Hidalgo was DepEd Assistant Secretary for Programs, Projects, and Regional Operations in 1998 and in 2001, was Undersecretary for Programs and Projects.
In 2005, she was appointed officer-in-charge (OIC) Secretary by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
