Far Eastern University pulled off an upset against University of Santo Tomas in a five-setter, 19-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-20, 15-10, in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.
Jean Asis scored four out of the Lady Tamaraws’ five straight points after trailing 7-6 in the final set to hand FEU the momentum en route to the victory.
The win gave FEU the last Final Four spot in the tourney as the Morayta crew improved to 7-4. UST, De La Salle University, and National University are also assured already of their Final Four slots.
Faida Bankake paced FEU with 21 points from 15 attacks, four blocks, and two aces, while Asis added 16 points.
Angge Poyos, who returned after missing UST’s previous match against University of the Philippines, had 20 points while Regina Jurado added 15 points as UST was dealt its second loss in 12 games.
Prior to this, Adamson University defeated UP, 25-17, 23-25, 20-25, 25-23, 15-13.
Barbie Jamili had 16 points, while May Ann Nique had 15 points as the Lady Falcons improved to 3-8. Nina Ytang paced the Lady Maroons with 17 points, while Danica Celis and Jewel Encarnacion chipped in 16 points apiece in the loss which brought UP to 1-11.
