The family of Laureana “Ka Luring” Franco remembered her kindness and faith as they expressed elation over the announcement that the process for the cause of her sainthood has started.

According to Jonathan Andal’s report on “24 Oras,” Friday, Ka Luring came from a poor family in Barangay Hagonoy in Taguig City.

She died at the age of 75 in 2011 due to ovarian cancer.

Some of her fellow servers at St. Michael Parish remembered how Ka Luring was when she was still alive.

“‘Yung pinaaral ako sa San Carlos bilang katekista,” Mary Grace Bello said.

Ka Luring’s relatives expressed their delight upon receiving the news.

“Tuwang-tuwa ang kalooban ko at ibang kamag-anak namin,” Ka Luring’s brother-in-law, Virgilio Ilomin, said.

“Tuwing darating siya ng bahay, lagi niya akong yayayain na, Apo, halika, mag-rosaryo tayo,” Ka Luring’s grandson, Rhev Ilomin, said.

It was said that Ka Luring has performed two miracles already, but they have yet to be verified.

“It happened in the United Kingdom. Car accident. Automatically, induced coma yung tao.Tinawag yung kamag-anak nila from Taguig who happens, a friend of Ka Luring. They visited the tomb. They prayed. And then, after 10 days, gumising yung induced coma,” according to Erickson Javier, Postulator of the Diocese of Pasig.

“The second one,  taga Pasig pero inatake siya ng puso… the wife prayed to Ka Luring and then, I think after eight days, nagkaroon ng improvement,” Javier added.

In 1990, Ka Luring was awarded pro ecclesia and pontifice by the Pope, and in 2002, she received the Mother Theresa award, where she received P500,000 and donated it to the poor.

The process of declaring a saint takes years, or sometimes decades.
