The eight-round showdown between Filipino Olympian Eumir Marcial and Thailand’s Thoedsak Sinam is official after both fighters made the contracted weight limit for Saturday, March 23, at Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.
The Paris Olympics-bound Marcial, 4-0 with 2 knockouts as a pro boxer, came in at 165 pounds while his opponent Sinam tipped the scale at 168 pounds.
For Marcial, fighting in his hometown is a dream come true.
“It has long been a dream to fight here in the Philippines even if it is not in the main event but now, I am the main event,” Marcial told after the weigh-in.
“This fight is part of my preparation for the Olympics. After I qualified from the Asian Games last year, I did not have exposure and fights anymore.”
Sinam, 28, brandishes a record of 23-13 with 19 knockouts and is coming off back-to-back victories. The Thai boxer will be Marcial’s most experienced opponent to date so the Filipino is not taking him lightly.
“After the Asian Games I flew to the USA to start training because it is very important for me to win this fight and gain experience for the Paris Olympics,” Marcial said.
