Emilio Aguinaldo College overcame a slow start to escape De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, 22-25, 25-23, 25-22, 22-25, 15-12, and kick off the NCAA Season 99 men’s volleyball tournament on Sunday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.
Opposite hitter Jan Abor and veteran open spiker Marvin Romero took the scoring cudgels to steer the Generals to the victory.
Abor top-scored EAC as the lefty spiker erupted for 26 points anchored on 25 attacks, highlighted by a strong kill that delivered the match point at 14-11.
Abor then punched the game-winning kill after completing a combination play as they survived a gutsy Benilde side.
Romero, who hit key attacks in the final frame to help EAC erase an early 3-1 deficit, finished with 16 points on top of six digs while Ervin Osabel chipped in eight markers.
The win allowed EAC to pick up where they left off from last season, where the wards of head coach Rod Palmero reached the Final Four round.
