The Department of Health (DOH) has expressed its condolences to the family, loved ones, and friends of the late Dr. Gia Baquiran Sison.
In a statement released on Saturday, the health department also thanked Sison for using her voice to speak for many individuals.
The DOH described her as a messenger who brought positive change to mental health awareness and policy.
“It is with gratitude for her life and work that we remember her strong support for Mental Health. Her calm and friendly voice was a voice that spoke for many others, a messenger that brought about positive change in mental health awareness and policy,” said DOH.
“Maraming salamat, Dr. Gia, sa pagkilos tungo sa ginhawa ng isip at damdamin,” added Health Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa.
Sison passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024.
In a message to GMA News Online, Dr. Rogin Sison, Gia’s husband, said she died of pulmonary embolism and heart failure.
She was a breast cancer survivor who served as the Head of Makati Medical Center’s Women Wellness Center and advocated for breast cancer awareness.
Sison also led the Livestrong Foundation and the National Adviser of the Youth for Mental Health Coalition. —Sherylin Untalan/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
