The Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday issued a show cause order against the teacher who went viral after she seemingly scolded her students in a harsh manner.

In a message to GMA News Online DepEd Assistant Secretary Francis Bringas confirmed that the show cause order was issued this morning. He also said the teacher is from a public school based in Metro Manila.

In the viral video, the teacher, whose identity was not disclosed to the media, was seen berating and talking down someone.

“We don’t want the teacher to be subject to public scrutiny now that the admin process has started,” Bringas said.

The video has prompted the DepEd to open an investigation.

“Hindi ako nag-board exam para lang hindi irespeto ng mga katulad niyong wala pa namang nararating sa buhay. Hindi na nga kayo matalino, sama pa ng ugali ninyo,” the woman said in the video.

(I didn’t take the board exam just to be disrespected by people like you who haven’t achieved anything yet in life. You are not even smart, and you have a bad attitude.)

Asked if the teacher indeed scolded her students inside the classroom, Bringas said it has yet to be determined.

“That will be ascertained upon verification of the submitted reply of the teacher,” he said.

He added that DepEd’s regional office will handle the investigation once the teacher has responded to the order.

The DepEd issued its child protection policy in 2012, which states that ”any act by deeds or words that debases, degrades, or demeans the intrinsic worth and dignity of a child as a human being” is considered child abuse.—RF, GMA Integrated News
