Chiz Escudero said that he knew his relationship with Heart Evangelista’s parents would eventually get better, but Heart said she thought otherwise.
On Thursday’s “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” the couple talked about their relationship, including its early stages.
Discussing their relationship with Heart’s parents, the senator said, “I knew from the beginning that it would be alright. It’s just a matter of time. I believed in that. I was confident in that.”
On the other hand, Heart said, “I didn’t believe in that. Hindi ako naniniwala.”
“Siya, napakanormal ng buhay niya, ‘yung family setup. I mean, it’s not that my family is not, but I feel like we have more of a complicated setup. So sa lahat ng pinagdaanan ko din with them, about my love life, it would always be complicated, so for me, parang hindi ko rin inisip na magiging maayos,” she said.
Heart said that all she knew was that she would come to a point where she would finally need to choose herself.
“I just knew at that time there’s a point in your life na kailangan mong piliin ‘yung sarili mo and what makes you happy because you’re the one that’s gonna live your life. So I really didn’t think that it would be OK but I knew that I chose the right person for me and that eventually, our love story will tell them otherwise,” she said.
When asked how he knew that things would get better, Chiz said it’s probably his experience.
“Siguro dahil mas matanda ako, Boy. Mas marami na akong nakita, nakilala, at siguro kasabay na rin dala ng pananampalataya at paniniwala na wala ka namang ginagawang mali o masama, sa dulo ‘yun pa rin ‘yung makikita nila,” he said.
He said that he understood where Heart’s parents were coming from.
“Yes, overly protective and loving parents,” he said.
Heart said she also understood how and why they wanted to protect her.
“I understood but I just, you know, parang naisip ko nung time na ‘yun, it was my turn. I’ve given up a lot of people in my life in the past for their happiness. It was my time to be happy,” she said.
Heart and Chiz held a renewal of vows last month at the Royal Villa in Balesin Island.
Heart’s mom, Cecile Ongpauco, walked her down the aisle during the ceremony.
Heart’s dad, Rey Ongpauco, was not able to attend because of his current health condition.
In 2021, Rey said he regrets missing Heart’s wedding to Chiz in 2015.
“Sayang. Naging bati na sana kami no’n,” he said.
