Three people, including a chairman and kagawad, were killed in an attack on the barangay hall of Barangay Daja Diot in San Isidro, Leyte over the weekend, according to the police.
In a press conference on Monday, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr. identified the slain barangay chairman as Elizalde Tabon.
“There were four unidentified persons riding two motorcycles, ito ang iniimbestigahan natin ngayon (this is what we are investigating into now),” Acorda said.
In a statement on Sunday, the Leyte Provincial Police said the victims were having a meeting at the barangay hall on Saturday evening when the perpetrators fired shots at them.
The perpetrators fled on their motorcycles in an unknown direction.
The San Isidro Municipal Police Station conducted a hot pursuit operation while adjacent police stations carried out dragnet operations.
“We have enhanced our patrol efforts, established 24-hour checkpoints, and implemented measures to heighten visibility and police presence,” the Leyte police said.
“Moreover, we are intensifying intelligence efforts to identify those involved and address the root cause of this incident,” it added. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
