Carl Tamayo’s camp has denied rumors that the Gilas Pilipinas star is set for a stint with the Manila Stars in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MBPL).

“Gilas Pilipinas player Carl Tamayo will not be playing for Manila Stars in the MPBL despite claims made by Andrew Yu in a Facebook group. Tamayo has not confirmed this in any statement,” VP Global Management, Tamayo’s agency, said in a statement.

VP Global Management stressed that the 6-foot-8 big man is only committed to the Philippine national men’s basketball team at the moment.

“Tamayo is currently only committed to Gilas Pilipinas while weighing options on his professional basketball career.”

Tamayo is fresh off a campaign with the national team in the first window of the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers, collecting a total of 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and a block in two games against Hong Kong and Chinese Taipei as the Philippines swept the window.

His return to Gilas came just weeks after parting ways with the Ryukyu Golden Kings in Japan B. League, where he posted averages of 3.9 points and 2.5 rebounds in 12.5 minutes in the ongoing season.
