Netflix’s anime collection never disappoints!
This summer, several new anime titles will be available on the streaming platform. Whether you are interested in romance, comedy, action, slice of life, or even fairy tales, there’s something sure to fit your tastes.
Set your reminders and update your to-watch list with these freshly released and upcoming titles on Netflix.
1. Spice and Wolf
This anime originally released in 2008 finally got a long-awaited remake! “Spice and Wolf” follows the story of traveling merchant Lawrence who wants to establish his own shop. In one of the villages he visits, he meets a wolf harvest deity named Holo who strikes a deal to tag along with him.
Set in a fictional world inspired by medieval Europe, “Spice and Wolf” has a unique offering to its viewers: a presentation of basic economic concepts and business principles.
Release date: April 2, ongoing.
2. A Condition Called Love
If you’ve never fallen in love, you will probably relate to Hotaru, the heroine of this newly released anime based on a manga series by Megumi Morino. The high school girl has not paid attention to boys and has shown no interest in romance at all.
She begins to think of relationships when she witnesses Hananoi, a boy from her school, get dumped by his girlfriend at a restaurant. After showing him an act of kindness, he suddenly asks her out the next day at school and she starts to feel emotions she has not experienced before.
Release date: April 5, ongoing.
3. Berserk: The Golden Age Arc (Memorial Edition)
This 2022 series is a remastered episodic cut of the “Berserk” film trilogy released in 2012 and 2013. It adapts the Golden Age Arc from the critically acclaimed manga created by the late Kentaro Miura.
“Berserk” is a dark fantasy set in a medieval Europe-inspired world. It follows Guts, a wandering swordsman who is forced to join a mercenary group called Band of the Hawk led by Griffith. The Golden Age Arc tells the events leading to Guts seeking revenge on his former comrade.
Release date: April 8.
4. Buddy Daddies
The found family trope has been growing popular in recent years, and “Buddy Daddies” is one of the anime titles that explore this. Rei and Kazuki, two assassins who live together, end up taking care of a four-year-old girl named Miri, the daughter of one of their targets.
The little girl thinks Kazuki is her biological father, and her presence unexpectedly brings sunshine and more in their lives.
Release date: April 15.
5. My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999
This cute romance anime is about a college student named Akane, who meets high school professional gamer Yamada shortly after she gets dumped by her boyfriend. Influenced to play games by her ex, she joins Yamada’s for-fun guild while healing her broken heart.
Meanwhile, Yamada is an introvert who only cares about gaming and has no time for girls. Things change when he meets the kind-hearted Akane, and he turns out to be such a green flag! Talk about fulfilling the fantasy of meeting your significant other in a game.
Release date: April 15.
6. Tomo-chan is a Girl
If you’re in need of laughs, this romantic comedy anime is for you! High school girl Tomo is in love with her childhood best friend Junichiro, but her tomboyish nature makes him think of her as simply “one of the boys.”
She tries to be more feminine and win his heart, but her true personality often comes out and results in hilarious moments. The supporting characters are also interesting, such as the very cute Carol Olston!
Release date: April 15.
7. The Grimm Variations
This Netflix Original will feature six stories inspired by fairy tales written by the Grimm brothers: “Cinderella,” “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Hansel and Gretel,” “The Elves and the Shoemaker,” “The Town Musicians of Bremen,” and “Pied Piper of Hamelin.” However, they are not going to be the same as the stories we all knew – modern twists, dark elements, and suspense abound in this reimagination.
“Cardcaptor Sakura” creator CLAMP worked on the character designs for the series, while WIT Studio (“Attack on Titan” Seasons 1 to 3) handled the anime production.
