The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) on Friday announced that 40 out of the 275 employees who are expected to lose their jobs by the weekend will be retained.
According to BuCor, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) considered the long experience of these personnel as eligibility, while two complied with the requirements, and one retired.
Due to this, the agency said a Corrections senior inspector, four Corrections inspector, four Corrections senior officer (CSO) 2, two CSO3, seven CSO 1, one Corrections technical officer (CTO) 3, and two CTO2, and two CTO1, among others, will be retained.
“The bureau continues to open its doors for new applicants who intend to work with the BuCor following the attrition and relatives of those affected by this development are welcome to apply as long as they are eligible,” Bucor Director General Gregorio Catapang said in a statement.
BuCor previously announced that 275 personnel were up for attrition on Saturday due to their failure to comply with the required eligibility and educational requirements under the BuCor Act of 2013.
Of those up for attrition, 125 are from the New Bilibid Prison, 30 from the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm, 19 from the Leyte Regional Prison, 20 from the Davao Prison and Penal Farm, 19 from the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm, 13 from the San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm, and six from the Correctional Institution for Women.
As of March 12, BuCor said that it has 6,680 employees. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
