Boy Abunda addresses fake articles using his name, denies endorsing cryptocurrency programs

Boy Abunda has addressed fake articles circulating online that claim he was promoting the use of a cryptocurrency program.

On Wednesday’s “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” the King of Talk first singled out a post that mentioned an alleged interview he conducted with Max Collins.

“Kumakalat ngayon ang isang fake article tungkol ‘di umano sa deleted interview ko kay Max Collins dito sa ‘Fast Talk with Boy Abunda.’ Ang claim ng article, nagtalo daw kami ni Max on-air at dahil hindi ako makapaniwala sa kaniyang biglaang pagyaman. In-explain daw ni Max sa akin na kaya siya yumaman ay nag-invest siya sa cryptocurrency auto-trading program o Bitcoin,” he said.

The fake article mentioned how Max convinced him to set up an account as the interview was happening and that 30 minutes later, his supposed investment of P14,060 grew to P21,165.

“Nililinaw ko po ngayon, nanay, tatay, Kapuso, hindi po ito totoo. This is fake. This is a big lie,” Abunda said.

According to Abunda, the article was published on the website crypto.com, which mimicked the interface of inquirer.net.

GMA Network Inc.’s legal team is now studying the legal options against “these scam websites.”

Tito Boy said this is not the first time his name and the show were used for a scam. He pointed to a fake article that said he allegedly criticized Michelle Dee on the show with an embedded link to a cryptocurrency website.

“Prior to this, may mga fake articles din na in-interview ko raw si former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo,” he said, adding he got a call from her, expressing her concern.

Abunda clarified that he did not interview other known celebrities and business personalities about the crypto program.

He also denied interviewing Dr. Willie Ong and Dr. Alvin Francisco. “Lahat ng mga pag-uusap na ito ay hindi po totoo. Lahat po ito, fake,” he said.

Tito Boy said all this is “alarming and extremely dangerous.”

“Dahil sa hirap ng buhay, a lot of people want to make a lot of money,” he said, reminding viewers to be extra cautious of what they read online.

“Check the link of the website, verify the information. Paano? By checking our official social media accounts at malalaman po ninyo kung ano ang totoo at ano ang hindi,” he said.
