Responders have recovered the bodies of the two 14-year-old boys who went missing while they were swimming in Solana, Cagayan, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Good Friday.

In a statement, the PCG said the lifeless bodies of the victims were retrieved on Maundy Thursday.

The victims went missing on Holy Wednesday while swimming in Cagayan River in Barangay Natappian, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

“According to their companions, they decided to do leisure bathing at a nearby river. The two victims, who also did not know how to swim, unconsciously reached a deep part of the river, causing them to drown,” the PCG said.

The search, rescue, and retrieval team handed over the bodies to their respective families for proper disposition, according to the PCG.

Aside from the two, the PNP on Thursday also reported that a 16-year-old boy also drowned while on a family trip in Panabo City, Davao del Norte on Holy Wednesday.

The police said the teenager was allowed by his mother to go swimming with his cousin. But after an hour, the mother noticed her son was not around, prompting her to seek assistance from responders.

The victim’s body was retrieved at 4:40 p.m. He was immediately brought to the Panabo City Emergency Clinic but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at about 5 p.m. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
