GMA Kapuso Foundation and the Philippine Red Cross recognized blood donors who have donated over 10 times.
According to “24 Oras,” Wednesday, among those who received the Blood Galloner award were Jonathan Cuadro and Marlon Alfonso.
Jonathan has donated blood 17 times already, a promise he made to himself ever since he saw how many people needed blood in hospitals.
“Since 2010, nagkaroon ako ng sakit na fatty liver, then ‘yun nga pong nasa ospital ako, marami akong nakitang nangailangan ng dugo. Parang ang naging daan no’n kaya ako nag-umpisa is ‘yung GMA Kapuso,” Jonathan said.
Just like Jonathan, it has also been Marlon’s advocacy to help when he saw the number of leukemia patients that needed blood transfusions.
“Para magkaroon din ng, kahit papaano, may sense din or makabuluhan ‘yung pananatili ko dito sa mundo. Kahit papaano, gusto ko tumulong and kahit ‘di siya pinansyal, which is ‘yung sa dugo ko,” Marlon said.
Alongside the recognition ceremony, GMA Kapuso Foundation also organized platelet donation through the mobile apheresis machine.
“Ang kinukuha po ay red blood cell and platelet. Ito po ay targeted sa mga specific needs ng patient tulad ng cancer patients, may bleeding disorder, ‘yung mga patient na may dengue. You just need one donor and you can already get six to eight units,” PRC Secretary General Gwendolyn Pang said.
For those who want to take part in GMA Kapuso Foundation’s initiatives, you may send your donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Shopee, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
