The Bureau of Immigration (BI) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) have signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to enhance their cooperation against the illegal drug trade, an official said Thursday.

According to the BI, it will provide PDEA with information about foreign nationals that are suspected to be involved in the drug trade.

“Itong ginawang MOA mas mapapabilis pa natin, mas mapaigting pa natin ‘yung pag implement natin ng ating border security to be able to avoid yung mga entry ng mga illegal drugs or kaya mga undesirable foreign nationals,” BI Deputy Spokesperson Melvin Mabulac said in an interview on BP Ngayon.

(This MOA will allow us to have a better implementation for our border security and avoid the entry of illegal drugs or undesirable foreign nationals.)

According to the BI, the signing ceremony was held at the BI headquarters on February 28. It was attended by Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco and PDEA Director General Moro Virgilio Lazo. —Joahna Lei Casilao/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
