BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — The city health services office (CHSO) has warned the public against the adverse effects of smog from forest fires in this city and parts of Benguet.
CHSO chief Dr. Celiaflor Brillantes said smog or a combination of fog and smoke can affect the lungs and cause cough, cold and dizziness.
She said smoky air may also trigger symptoms in people with pulmonary and heart diseases.
Brillantes advised the public to wear face masks to protect themselves from smog.
She said people with breathing problems should consult their doctor to avoid complications.
The Bureau of Fire Protection said a forest fire broke out in Kadaklan Village near Camp John Hay at 4:30 a.m. It was declared out at 5:57 a.m.
Forest fires have been raging in this city and some areas in Benguet since early this month.
Two forest fires broke out in two barangays in Itogon on Wednesday, affecting 16 hectares in Sitio Bonecaw in Barangay Loacan.
Authorities said forest and bush fires also affected portions of Mt. Sto. Tomas in Tuba.
