Another Legal Place to Consume Cannabis Is Now Open in Las Vegas

With bong chandeliers and canna-cocktails, Planet 13 introduces another way to light up in Las Vegas With bong chandeliers and cannabis-infused cocktails, one more option for legally consuming cannabis is now open in Las Vegas. Under Nevada’s current laws, you can visit Las Vegas and purchase marijuana at any dispensary — but up until a few weeks ago, there weren’t many places to legally smoke it. Now, Planet 13, the neon-glowing mega-dispensary near the Las Vegas Strip, has a lounge in which tourists can buy their preferred product and then smoke or sip in the adjacent lounge.
A telephone booth gives way to a hidden door that opens into the Dazed Consumption Lounge at Planet 13. Inside, a lounge with high-tops, leather chairs, cozy nooks, and loveseats features murals on the walls, glass chandeliers above, televisions, and pinball machines. A menu features mocktails that can be infused with THC. There are options like a lavender lemonade ($13) — an extra $5 gets you two milligrams of THC — and sodas like lemon-lime and root beer. The lounge also offers a number of strains offered in pre-rolls or with bongs.

Thrive Dispensary won the heated race to be the first dispensary in the state approved by the Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board to operate a consumption lounge. It opened Smoke & Mirrors at 2975 S. Sammy Davis Jr. Drive in February. The only other consumption lounge in the state is the NuWu dispensary’s Sky High Lounge, which opened in 2019 on sovereign tribal land owned by the Las Vegas Paiute Tribe.
Nevada legalized the recreational use of marijuana in 2016 but under current state laws, cannabis can only be consumed in private residences, not on public sidewalks or in hotel rooms — the exception being a single floor in one off-Strip hotel. Smoke & Mirrors and Dazed give tourists a new place in which to legally consume cannabis and notably create a new category for Vegas’s culinary scene, where infused mixed drinks and, eventually, infused food are possible.

“We think a lot of consumers would love to have lunch or dinner while smoking a joint or have events with consumption,” David Farris, Planet 13’s vice president of sales and marketing, said after the dispensary was awarded its license. Planet 13’s adjacent restaurant, Trece Eatery + Spirits, closed this week but Breakfast Junkies, an all-day breakfast bar with crepes, pancakes, and burgers, is opening in the space on April 20.
Dazed is planning special events and game-day watch parties, and offers VIP booths with table service. It’s also teaming up with other Las Vegas businesses like Area15 — which is offering themed transportation to shuttle riders between the entertainment complex and Dazed for events at Area15 surrounding the weekend of (when else?) April 20. Dazed Consumption Lounge at Planet 13 (2548 W. Desert Inn Road) is open from 11 a.m. until 1 a.m. Monday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. until 2 a.m. Friday through Sunday.
