The 8th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 took place between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. It was a festival of runs as both the teams exhibited out-of-the-box batting skills and gave fans everything to cheer about. But in the end, it was PBKS that ended up finishing on the winning side as they won the thriller by 5 runs.
Asked to bat first, PBKS openers Prabhsimran Singh (60) and Shikhar Dhawan took them off the rollicking start as they smashed 90 runs for the opening partnership. After that Jitesh Sharma joined hands with the skipper and the duo made sure that they keep the momentum in their court.
Chasing the target RR sent Yashasvi Jaiswal and R Ashwin to open the innings as Jos Buttler was struggling with his finger injury, which happened while fielding. The Southpaw kick-started the innings with a six but after that was back in the hut for 11 runs. The off-spinner didn’t trouble the scorers as Arshdeep Singh took his second wicket with the new ball.

Devdutt Padikkal struggled with his timing and managed just 21 runs in 26 balls as Nathan Ellis bagged his 4th wicket.
Shimron Hetmyer raised the hopes for his fans with his brutal power hitting in the end and along with impact player Dhruv Jurel (32*), he took the match to the last over but a miscommunication saw him getting run out for 36 runs in 18 balls. On the other hand, Sam Curran nailed his yorkers brilliantly and defended 16 runs in the last over to hand his side a win.

After the end of the 8th game of the IPL 2023, Punjab Kings climbed up to No.2 in the points table whereas Gujarat Titans retained their No. 1 spot. Both GT and PBKS have 4 points each but defending champions have a slightly high NRR than the PBKS. The win by Shikhar Dhawan-led side pushed Royal Challengers Bangalore to No.4 and Rajasthan Royals to N0.4 as their NRR dropped as well. Lucknow Super Giants were dropped down by one spot whereas there was no change in the lower half of the table.
IPL 2023 Orange Cap
The top two positions in the orange cap table remained unchanged as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Kyle Mayers because of their staggering half-centuries in the first two games are at the top of the table. However, Shikhar Dhawan with his blistering 86-run knock against RR has climbed up and is now third on the table with 126 runs to his name. David Warner was displaced from the No 3 spot to No 5 whereas Sanju Samson made an entry into the Top 5 with his knock against PBKS.

Rashid Khan and Ravi Bishnoi retained their place at No.2 and No.3 whereas Yuzvendra Chahal displaced Mohammad Shami to enter top-5.
