Vice President Sara Duterte’s public satisfaction rating slightly went up at 73% at the end of 2023, according to the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey.

The non-commissioned SWS survey, conducted on December 8 to 11, 2023, also showed that 12% were dissatisfied with Duterte while 14% were undecided.

These figures earned Vice President Duterte a net satisfaction rate of 61%,

Duterte’s 73% public satisfaction score is higher than her 72% rating in September 2023.

Her 61% satisfaction rate is also higher than those of other top government officials surveyed, namely Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri (44%), Speaker Martin Romualdez (28%), and Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo (32%).

The Vice President’s 61% net satisfaction rating, the SWS said, falls under “very good” category. Zubiri’s 44% and Gesmundo’s 32%, meanwhile, are deemed “good” while Romualdez’s 28% is categorized as “moderate.”

High across the board

Vice President Duterte’s net satisfaction rating was highest at 83% in her bailiwick Mindanao, followed by the Visayas at “very good” level of 60%, Balance Luzon at “very good level” of 55%, and Metro Manila at “good” level of 46%.

Compared to her September 2023 figures, Duterte gained the most in Balance Luzon, where her net satisfaction rating went from 46% to 55%.

She also scored her highest public satisfaction rating among respondents with no formal education and some elementary education at 81%.

She both registered a 72% public satisfaction rating in the brackets of Junior High School graduates with some college education, as well as college graduates with some or post-college education.

Duterte’s lowest public satisfaction score by educational attainment was just at 71% among elementary graduates with some Junior High School education.

Duterte, who also serves as Education secretary, also got the highest public satisfaction rating from respondents aged 35 to 44 years at 78%, followed by those aged 25 to 34 (77%), 18 to 24 (74%) 55 and up (70%) and 45 to 54 (69%).

Her 61% net satisfaction rating in December 2023 is also an improvement from her 57% score in September 2023, which is her lowest so far since October 2022 where she scored a net satisfaction rating of 73%.

Minimal changes

No significant changes were also observed for the rest of the field who were subjected to the SWS poll.

Zubiri posted a public satisfaction score of 56%, which is just a notch lower than his September 2023 score of 57%. On the other hand, only 12% of the respondents were dissatisfied with his performance while 27% were undecided.

Romualdez, meanwhile, registered a slight drop in his public satisfaction rating of 45% from 48% in September 2023. There were 17% who were dissatisfied with the Speaker while 31% were undecided.

Gesmundo, on the other hand, got a 45% rating, up from his previous score of 41%. Only 13% were dissatisfied with him while 30% were undecided.

The SWS fourth quarter 2023 survey was done using face-to-face interviews of 1,200 respondents aged 18 years old and above nationwide. Of the 1,200, 300 were from Metro Manila, 300 from Balance Luzon (or Luzon outside Metro Manila),300 the Visayas, and 300 from Mindanao.

The sampling error margins are ±2.8% for national percentages, and ±5.7% each for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.

The area estimates were weighted by the Philippine Statistics Authority medium-population projections for 2023 to obtain the national estimates.

[Please tell me how satisfied or dissatisfied you are with the performance of [NAME] as [POSITION]. Are you very satisfied, somewhat satisfied, undecided if satisfied or dissatisfied, somewhat dissatisfied, very dissatisfied, or you have not ever heard or read anything about [NAME]?].” —KBK, GMA Integrated News
