VIP tickets on sale now for San Pedro’s July 5 fireworks show
Tickets to a VIP event to watch San Pedro’s Fourth of July fireworks show — which will take place a day after Independence Day — can be purchased for $75 at The Den bookstore, 1126 W. 37th St.
The shops hours are from noon to 5 p.m Wednesday to Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; it’s closed Monday and Tuesday.
This year will the 75th anniversary of the John Olguin Independence Day Fireworks Extravaganza, which also serves as a fundraiser for the Cabrillo Beach Boosters to restore its vision for Cabrillo Beach as a community destination.
The extravaganza will take place from 9 to 11 p.m. on July 5, bringing a return to the fireworks show — which can be viewed from Cabrillo Beach and surrounding areas — a year after organizers were forced to celebrate Independence Day with drones, rather than the traditional pyrotechnics. The fireworks will be shot off at 9 p.m. from Berth 46 at the Port of Los Angeles.
This year’s show will also take place on July 5 — rather than during the holiday — because organizers were unable to book a fireworks vendor for Independence Day. But since Fourth of July falls on a Friday this year, there will be a long holiday weekend. Because of that, organizers — the Cabrillo Beach Boosters — are optimistic about having the event on a Saturday, saying it’s likely that even bigger crowds will turn out for the big 75th anniversary celebration.
Those who don’t want to crowd onto the public Cabrillo Beach to watch the fireworks show can instead attend pay $75 for the VIP event.
That event will take place from 5 to 10 p.m. July 5 at the Cabrillo Beach Youth Waterfront Sports Center, 3000 Shoshonean Road, which, organizers said, offers “the best seat in the house” to watch the fireworks.
The VIP event will include a raffle, a catered dinner (served from 6 to 7 p.m.), front-row viewing and updates on various Cabrillo Beach Boosters projects. Tickets are limited and must be purchased in advanced.
A parking pass will be sold separately.
