Silverwood Lake Recreation Area closed through July 4th holiday weekend
California State Park officials have closed the Silverwood Lake Recreation Area through the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
In a news release Wednesday, July 2, park officials cited “extensive damage and public safety hazards” caused by the Lake fire for the closure.
The wildfire erupted Saturday, June 28, before consuming more than 480 acres, prompting evacuations of the recreation area. Officials closed the area Saturday, including a portion of the Pacific Coast Trail, and it may remain closed past Monday, July 7, depending on conditions in the area.
