‘Reckless’ car chase suspect arrested after crashing into cars in Pacoima
A man was arrested after a short pursuit with police officers on the 5 freeway in Pacoima and subsequently hitting at least five vehicles on Friday morning, authorities said.
Just after 7:30 a.m. on May 30, officers with the California Highway Patrol observed a man traveling around 125 miles per hour on the northbound 5 freeway, just north of the Sheldon Street exit, in Pacoima, CHP officer Erik Larsen said. Officers tried to pull the suspect over by turning on their lights and sirens but the man failed to stop.
The pursuit was canceled after four minutes because of how the man was driving. The CHP then received calls from the Los Angeles Police Department and victims about the man driving “recklessly” on surface streets.
The man hit at least five parked and moving vehicles, including one that led to his arrest, Larsen said. The crashes occurred in two locations: at Nordhoff Street and Cedros Avenue and in the 15400 block of Nordhoff, which was a larger scene of damage, according to the CHP.
He was transported to a local hospital, later released and then booked into jail.
It was not immediately clear if anyone else was hurt.
The CHP is investigating.
