Police seek driver in fatal hit-and-run in Mission Hills
MISSON HILLS — Police sought the public’s assistance Monday in locating a hit-and-run suspect in Missions Hills responsible for the death of a 50-year-old man.
The collision occurred Sunday at 9:25 p.m. A light-colored sedan was traveling eastbound on Devonshire Street near Woodman Avenue moments before colliding with a pedestrian who was attempting to help a loose dog cross the street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics arrived at the location to render medical assistance, but despite their efforts, pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
The Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner identified the North Hills resident Monday as Jesus Portillo.
“Motorists are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” the police department said in a statement.
A reward of up to $50,000 is being offered for information that leads to the identification, arrest and conviction of the suspect.
