Motorcyclist dead after Long Beach traffic collision
A 20-year-old Long Beach man is dead after a traffic collision Thursday night.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, at about 9:24 p.m. on July 3, officers responded to a traffic collision between a motorcycle and a vehicle at the intersection of Downey Avenue and South Street.
Officers found a male adult motorcyclist in the southbound lanes of Downey Avenue, north of South Street. Nearby, and a woman was lying on the sidewalk on the west side of Downey Avenue, authorities said.
Los Angeles County Fire Department staff responded and said the motorcyclist had died at the scene. They then took the woman to a local hospital to receive additional treatment for her injuries.
Initial police investigation determined that the Long Beach resident was driving a 2008 Honda CBR motorcycle west on South Street toward Downey Avenue, carrying the woman as a passenger, authorities said. A 2012 Toyota 4Runner was turning left to go northbound on Downey Avenue when Porras’ motorcycle struck it, police said.
Officers are investigating speed and distracted driving as potential factors in the collision, police officials said.
