Job creation, food security crucial – Go
SEN. Bong Go again pushed for job creation and food security as he raised the need to sustain efforts in helping workers and farmers.
The senator in a statement on Monday underscored the importance of economic stability in everyday Filipino life.
"If we want to uplift the life of every Filipino family, we should focus on job creation and food. This is the reality insofar as our fellowmen are concerned," Go said in Filipino.
Go said he filed and supported measures aimed at improving the lives of workers and agricultural communities which are the backbone of the nation.
He co-authored and co-sponsored Senate Bill (SB) 2534 which proposes a P100 daily wage hike for private sector employees.
SB 2534 seeks to "relieve the financial strain caused by inflation and to boost the purchasing power of ordinary workers," the senator said.
Go filed SB 420 or the Rural Employment Assistance Program (REAP) to address unemployment, particularly in rural and disaster-prone areas.
SB 420 offers temporary jobs to displaced and seasonal workers. He also filed SB 1707 to ensure fair pay and protection for social workers, citing their vital role during emergencies.
Go filed SB 2107 or the Freelance Workers Protection Bill, ensuring that independent workers receive formal contracts and just compensation. This measure will complement SB 1184, which institutionalizes rights and benefits for delivery riders amid growing demand for delivery services.
He was one of the authors of Republic Act (RA) 11901 or the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Rural Development Financing Enhancement Act of 2022, which expands access to credit in rural communities.
Go also co-authored and co-sponsored RA 11953, or the New Agrarian Emancipation Act, which forgave the debts of agrarian reform beneficiaries — a landmark relief for long-struggling farmers.
